Why FusionThe name reads as the energy story, and that is the smaller half of it.People read the name as the energy one, and they are half right. Two inputs are collapsing in cost at the same moment — machine intelligence and solar energy — and that is not primarily a productivity story. The two things that historically forced people and nations to depend on larger institutions were the cost of thinking at scale and the cost of power. Both are falling. That is a sovereignty story, and it is worth naming a company after.It is the smaller half.The process the word actually describes is two things forced together hard enough to become one, and releasing more than they held apart. I have spent my career watching the opposite: four companies, four component libraries, four teams solving the same solved problem, each one convinced its version would be the one that lasted.Nothing about that is a technology problem. The pieces exist. They are simply never brought together, and the cost of keeping them apart is paid quietly, for years, by whoever inherits the result.I would rather have a name that makes a claim than one that decorates a landing page. This one commits me to something specific: that the point is to merge what should not have been separate, and that a Fusion product which adds another parallel thing to the pile has failed on its own terms regardless of how good it is.Helix is the first test of that. It is a design system, which is exactly the kind of thing the world has too many of. The name says the bar is not whether it is good. The bar is whether it removes the reason to build the next one.
